Session 78: “Surveiller les gardiens : le maintien de l’ordre dans les jardins botaniques, XIXe siècle.”

The Royal Botanic Gardens Constabulary was established in 1845. William Thiselton Dyer, Director of Kew from 1885-1905, is the bearded, white-haired officer carrying cane.

Marine Bellégo (LARCA, Université Paris Cité)will give a paper entitled “Surveiller les gardiens : le maintien de l’ordre dans les jardins botaniques, XIXe siècle.” Her respondent will be Mélanie Cournil (Université Paris Sorbonne).

This is a joint session with the Environnemental Humanities research group and the “Humanités et questions environnementales” research group.
